Google's attempt to mimic Bing 'a fail'

Friday June 11, 2010 at 12:58pm
If you have a good trademark, sometimes the best advice is that if it isn't broke, don't fix it ..

INTERNET SEARCH OUTFIT Google pulled its attempt to mimic Microsoft's Bing after an option for people to change its classic minimalist homepage had to be scrapped.

The company "created a gallery of background images" to let users personalize their Google search page. The big idea was that users might want unusual imagery in the background instead of the standard white look.

It expected to try this out for 24 hours but it switched back after just a few hours. The main problem was that Google did not give users the option to revert back to the default homepage.

Some people might have liked the idea, but they did not like being forced to use it. Google said the reason it all went wrong was that an explanation to users was not sent out at the same time.  View News Item
